Overview
Discover Ghana's rich history and vibrant culture on this immersive journey from Accra to Cape Coast. Students will visit the preserved home of W.E.B. Du Bois, explore Jamestown, and explore Kakum National Park. Along the way, your group will enjoy a hands-on workshop at a local batik studio and a delicious cooking class in Auntie Esi’s kitchen. Students will also get the chance to reflect on the lasting impact of the trans-Atlantic slave trade as they visit powerful memorials at Assin Manso and Cape Coast Castle.

Overnight flight to Ghana (Accra)

Meet your Tour Director
Your 24-hour Tour Director will meet you at the airport and remain with your group until your final airport departure.
Accra guided sightseeing tour
Discover Accra, Ghana’s dynamic capital, where modern city life meets a powerful legacy of independence and Pan-African leadership. Visit the W.E.B. Du Bois Centre to explore the life, preserved home, and scholarship of the renowned civil rights leader and thinker. Continue to Independence Square, where the Black Star Gate and Independence Arch stand as lasting symbols of freedom, national pride, and Ghana’s role in shaping modern African history.
Day 3
Trashy Bags upcycling workshop
Visit Trashy Bags Africa for a hands-on workshop that highlights Accra’s creative approach to sustainability. Learn how discarded water sachets are collected across the city and transformed into durable bags and accessories through sorting, cleaning, cutting, and stitching. Follow the full production process and create a simple upcycled item while seeing how local innovation is helping reduce plastic waste through practical, community-driven solutions.
Makola Market exploration
Explore Accra’s largest open-air market, where stalls and narrow lanes create a constant flow of colour, sound, and movement. Walk past textiles, produce, and handmade goods while seeing vendors expertly carry goods on their heads. Visit with a local guide and find great photo vantage points.
Day 4
Travel to Cape Coast
Assin Manso Slave River Site visit
Visit this important memorial site where enslaved Africans took their “last bath” before being forced to the coast. Walk the grounds beside the Donkor Nsuo River and learn how the site honours those lost while connecting Ghana to the wider history of the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
Cape Coast Castle visit
Step inside one of West Africa’s most significant coastal forts, central to the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Walk through courtyards, corridors, and dungeons while learning how the trade operated. Stand at the “Door of No Return” and reflect on this powerful chapter of history.
Day 5
Kakum National Park visit
Experience one of West Africa’s remaining tropical rainforests and discover its rich biodiversity. Choose a guided nature walk to learn about local plants and wildlife, or cross the canopy walkway high above the forest floor for sweeping views across this protected landscape.
International Stingless Bee Project visit
Discover how stingless beekeeping supports conservation and rural livelihoods in Ghana. Tour the hives, learn how local bee species help protect biodiversity and strengthen communities, then walk through the surrounding rainforest and enjoy a tasting of their distinctive honey.
Elmina Castle (St. George’s Castle) visit
Walk through one of West Africa’s most significant coastal forts, built in 1482 and tied to the trans-Atlantic slave trade. See whitewashed courtyards, descend into former dungeons, and stand at the Door of No Return for a powerful moment of reflection.
Day 6
Global Mamas batik-making workshop
Step into a local workshop and learn the art of African batik during a hands-on class. Use traditional wax-and-dye techniques to create vibrant patterns and design your own two-yard fabric to take home. Gain a deeper appreciation for this cherished cultural craft.
Auntie Esi’s Ghanaian cooking class with lunch
Step into Auntie Esi’s kitchen for a hands-on taste of Ghanaian cuisine. Learn to prepare favourites such as jollof with chicken or fish while discovering local ingredients and traditions. Then sit down together to enjoy the meal you helped create.
Day 7
Coffin Makers’ Workshop visit
Visit a renowned workshop in Teshie where master craftsmen create colourful fantasy coffins shaped to reflect a person’s life and passions. Watch artisans carve, paint, and finish imaginative designs while learning about this distinctive Ghanaian tradition.
Jamestown heritage walk
Discover the historic heart of colonial-era Accra, known for its bright colours and lively street life. See architecture blending European and Ghanaian influences, then stop for photos at the iconic red-and-white lighthouse overlooking the Gulf of Guinea.
Day 8
Return home

Spend two additional days discovering Kumasi, the historic heart of the Ashanti Kingdom. Explore the city during a guided sightseeing tour featuring visits to the Manhyia Palace Museum, bustling Kejetia Market, and the National Cultural Centre. Also experience Ghana’s rich artistic traditions through an excursion to Ashanti craft villages, where students can see woodcarving in Ahwiaa, learn about Adinkra cloth-making in Ntonso, and witness the vibrant Kente weaving traditions of Bonwire.

Financial Assistance
Financial Assistance
Through the WorldStrides Canada Financial Assistance Program (FAP), we provide travel grants to elementary and secondary school facing financial hardship. These grants, which can be up to $250 for coach tours and up to $1,000 for flight tours, are designed to make our programs more accessible to students from all backgrounds. Interested families are encouraged to speak with their school to learn more about our confidential application process.
Payment Plans
Monthly Automated Plan
Enroll with a deposit of $99 plus the cost of your travel protection plan (if included). We’ll automatically debit the rest of your tour fee from your chequing account in equal monthly payments, with the final payment due 35 days before you travel.
Please note: If two consecutive payments are declined, your account will be moved to the 4-Step Manual Plan.
4-Step Manual Plan
Manage your payments manually with a $249 initial payment plus your travel protection plan costs (if included). You’ll then make three more payments at key milestones as your departure date approaches. The final balance is due 65 days before your trip.
